Study: Millennium (M)
Purpose: To show that the millennium begins at the second coming of Jesus Christ. It is a period of judicial review that culminates in the eternal destruction of the wicked.
Center It: Christ allows His followers the opportunity to review the decisions that He and the Father have made. He allows us to see that He is fair and just in all of His ways.

1. Genesis 3:17 - The Bible says that as a result of sin that God cursed the ground. As a result of this curse the ground produces weeds and thorns.
2. Genesis 4:12 - Here we read of a second curse in which some of the strength and vitality of the earth has been removed.
3. Leviticus 25:3-4 - As a result of the weakening of the land, God gave His people instructions on farming. They were to only farm the land for six straight years and then give the land a sabbath. It was to rest and they would be blessed by following God’s commandment. However there is not one text in the Bible where it says they ever followed this commandment. Interestingly enough there is even evidence they actually disobeyed this command.
4. 2 Chronicles 36:20-21 - Here we see God said they were carried away and the land could enjoy her sabbaths. Apparently the land was not receiving her sabbaths otherwise.
5. 2 Peter 3:8 (Psalm 90:4) - Using Bible chronology we find about 2000 years from creation to Abraham. About 2000 years from Abraham to Jesus, and yet another 2000 years from Jesus to the time in which we live. The Bible says we work 6 days and rest on the 7th. Someone could own a slave for 6 years and would have to let them go free on the 7th year. The farmers were to farm the land 6 years and was to give it a rest on the 7th. It is interesting that Bible chronology puts us near the end of 6000 years and then speaks of 1000 years of satan being bound.
6. John 5:28-29 - We learned that the purpose of the resurrection is to raise the dead. It is clear that at the “first resurrection” the righteous receive their reward and at the “second resurrection” the wicked receive their reward. These two resurrections are 1000 years apart.
7. Revelation 20:4-6 - The righteous live and reign with Christ for 1000 years and the rest of the dead don't live again until the 1000 years have expired. The rest of the dead must be the wicked. They are then raised from the dead at the end of the 1000 years. From this text we see that there is 1000 years between the first and second resurrection.
Events that begin the Millennium

11. 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 - Wicked living are slain by the coming of Jesus.
12. Revelation 20:1-2 - Satan is to be bound to a “bottomless pit.” The Greek word being used for bottomless pit is “Abussos” - literally meaning “...without form, and void.” In the Greek translation of the Old Testament the word Abussos is used when translating Genesis 1:2 “without form and void” Describing the earth in its chaotic state before God began creating everything.
13. Jeremiah 4:23-27 - Also in Jeremiah we read the same term being used in verse 23. Satan will be bound to this earth with nobody to tempt and nothing to do for 1000 years.

17. Revelation 20:3 - At the end of the 1000 years the Bible says that satan is set free for “a little season.” Not sure exactly how long that will be, but apparently long enough to get the deception going again.
18. Revelation 20:5 - Plainly stated! The rest of the dead did not live again until the 1000 years were finished. That means they were dead during the 1000 years and now they are alive again. Just as Jesus said it would happen.
