law of god

Study: Law Of God (LG)

Purpose: To show that God’s Law is still valid today. To show that keeping God’s Law is an expression of our love for Him.

Center It: Any attempt to modify the law of God is the work of antichrist.

Know It Mark It:

Names of Antichrist:

1. Daniel 7:25 2. Romans 3:20 3. 1 John 3:4 4. James 2:10-11 5. Romans 7:7 6. Exodus 20:1-17 7. Exodus 31:18 8. Revelation 14:9-12

9. Matthew 7:21-23

10. Acts 3:18-19 11. John 14:15

12. Acts 5:31-32

1. Daniel 7:25 - Any attempt to change the law of God is doing the work of antichrist.

2. Romans 3:20 - The purpose of the law it to show us our sin. The law cannot save anyone, but it is like a mirror that shows our defects so that we go to Jesus for cleansing. The Bible says the pur- pose of the law is to define sin.

3. 1John 3:4 - Sin is the transgression of the law. If there were no law then there would be no sin, if there were no sin than there would be no need of being saved from sin. The reason Jesus died on the cross was because of our transgression of the law. What law is he referring to?

4. James 2:10-11 - If we break any of the laws then we have broken all the laws. Then two of the ten commandments are named as an example of what laws are being spoken of when stating that if you break one then you have broken all of them.

5. Romans 7:7 - Very plainly spoken here. The law is not bad (sin) it actually defines what is good. We would not even know that it was a sin to covet except the law tells us it is so. There are nine other commandments and he used the covet commandment for an example. Let’s read the ten commandments and see if they are truly good or bad.

6. Exodus 20:1-17 - Are there any of these commandments that God may change His mind about? Do you think it is possible that they were at one time good, but now with our cultural advancements we could just say “not for us any more”? We learned that the entire Bible was written by holy men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. However there is one part of the Word of God that God did not trust even holy men to write. That was the ten commandments!

7. Exodus 31:18 - God wrote the commandments on stone with His own finger. Does He give us any reason to believe that at some point He would be willing to say “I changed my mind about my law”? Even at the very end of time God uses His law as part of a test to determine who are His servants and who are not. It separates who receives the mark of the beast and who does not.

8. Revelation 14:9-12 - Notice the contrast between those at the very end who receive the mark of the beast and those who don’t. Those who don’t receive the mark of the beast are keeping God’s commandments and have the faith of Jesus. That would mean that those who receive the mark of the beast would be lacking in that area. Some may think that is too simple, but now look at what Jesus says will define those who thought they were saved but will be lost at the end.

9. Matthew 7:21-23 - Imagine living your life thinking that you were to be saved when Jesus comes, only to find out too late that you're contempt for His law and feeling like breaking it did not matter. Now you are excluded from heaven. Jesus said they will be told because they were practicing law- lessness they are excluded from the kingdom! His law defines sin. A requirement for being saved is to repent for our sins.

10. Acts 3:18-19 - If there were no law there would be no sins to be blotted out. The law leads us to Jesus. Justifying our sins can never save us, neither can saying the very thing that defines sin is unimportant. The appeal that the word of God gives to us is simply to repent and surrender to His will being done. Finally Jesus appeals to us to show our love to Him.

11. John 14:15 - 16 Very simply put. Jesus says if we really love Him then we will be keeping His commandments. Jesus said love is demonstrated by actions. He says that the promise for loving and obeying is the filling of The Holy Spirit.

12. Acts 5:31-32 - Would you like to claim His promise to those who obey? Many want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but are we following the things that Jesus said was a requirement for that promise to be fulfilled?
